White Owls have announced that Hotel Barcelona, the surreal action-roguelite collaboration between SUDA51 (No More Heroes) and SWERY (Deadly Premonition), is set to release on September 26, 2025. The title will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam. In case you missed it, check out our preview.
Revealed during the Xbox @ gamescom broadcast, Hotel Barcelona throws players into a chaotic sidescrolling fever dream. You play as Justine, a federal marshal possessed by a monstrous entity, navigating a luxurious hotel overrun by serial killers and grotesque personalities. Styled with vivid anime-inspired visuals, the art direction pulls from talent involved in Chainsaw Man, Persona, and Final Fantasy VII Remake.
Death is far from final in this roguelite setup. Each failed run contributes to your power, allowing players to summon Slasher Phantoms, ghostly versions of their past selves, to aid in battle. Nearly 100 weapons can be discovered throughout your stay, and a wide array of upgrades promise different approaches to each run. Progress also feeds into unlocking Dr. Carnival’s latent powers, giving Justine an edge, if she can control it.
A new trailer accompanied the announcement, showing off frantic combat, bizarre bosses, and a peek at the psychedelic environments. It also highlighted the game’s soundtrack, composed by Yuji “TECHNOuchi” Takenouchi (Dark Souls, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake), with a physical and digital release being handled by Kid Katana Records.
